How you all doing? I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I had a pretty relaxing one, all I did was get some sewing done, eat and then study since I have 1 final exam this week. I also found a new love in Starbucks...lol. I was not a coffee or tea girl even all through my undergrad college days but my mom got a Starbucks gift and she give it to me to use. So I went to Starbuck and tried the holiday special Caramel Brulee Latte and I absolutely loved it! Now I am obsessed with Starbucks and have drank it everyday since I tried it...lol.
Anyways onto today's DIY post, one of the most rewarding thing about sewing is getting an inspiration from a retail ready made piece and making a piece using that inspiration for way less than it's retail price. I saw this Zara Coat HERE and I loved it but I was not willing to spend almost $300 on a coat when I know I can try to make it. I search my favorite pattern stores for a similar pattern and found this vogue one that is kinda similar to it. The total cost of making this coat was about $30...Woot! Woot!! I don't know if you guys have noticed but I love Coats, I believe they are the perfect way to make a stylish statement in the fall/winter. Even though this is my first time making a coat and it was a bit tedious and such a long process, I have like 3 more coats on my wishlist to make this season. I kept the styling of this camel and purple coat very simple by making it the statement piece in my outfit. I paired it with a simple t-shirt, jeans and a pair of purple pumps to compliment the purple lining peek-a-boo detail. I look forward to making more coats and sharing it with y'all...:)
Check out the pattern review below!
Pattern Review:  Vogue V9069
Pattern Description: very loose-fitting wrap coat has front extending into pleated hood, side front seams, pockets, carriers and belt.
Pattern Sizing: It comes in (XSM-SML-MED) and (LRG-XLG-XXL). I cut a size medium and it fits very loose. I would say it runs kinda big in regards to sizing.
Fabric Used: Wool Blend Coating fabric (similar HERE) and Posh Lining (HERE)
Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you are done sewing with it? Yes!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy to follow for a beginner like me, there was a lot of new sewing skills like making the belt carrier and topstitching but the instructions to do them were simple and straight forward.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that it's not a lot of pieces to put together but it's a bit time consuming.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? Nothing much, I just used the purple lining in the hood section for a peek-a-boo effect.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would definitely sew this again but in a smaller size for a more fitted look. I would also recommend it if you like a nice and easy coat.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!
