My DIY: Ankara Flounce Dress + Simplicity 1586 Pattern Review...

Cheers to the Weekend Lovelies!

Ankara Mermaid Flounce Maxi Dress (I made)
Steve Madden "Dejavu" Leather Pumps (HERE)
MAC "Styled In Sepia" Lipstick (Limited Edition)
I hope you all had a productive week, I tried to in between work and this horrible cold we are having in the DMV area. I just hope it gets a bit warmer this weekend, I have plans to start sewing up the full skirts for my last giveaway winners. Anyways on to this ankara dress I am rocking in Today's post. I made it about 2 weeks ago and rocked it for our 1st Sunday of the Year Thanksgiving service at church. I absolutely love the fit of the dress on me and the mixture of the ankara and black fabric. What do you guys think of the dress?
For those who sew, check out the pattern review below...:)
Pattern Review:  Simplicity 1586
Pattern Description: Misses' & Plus size dress with sleeve and neckline variations. Individual patterns for slim, average & curvy fit & B, C, D cup size for miss & C, D, DD cup sizes for plus.
Pattern Sizing: It came in a 10-18 size and I cut a size 12 curvy but I had to take in about 2 inches at each side to get this perfect fit, next time I will cut a size 10 curvy.
Fabric Used: AnkaraWax 100% Cotton Fabric and Black Poly Poplin Suiting Fabric
Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you are done sewing with it? Not really since I added sleeves and the mermaid flounce at the bottom
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes! Super easy I love working with Simplicity patterns.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the sleeve and neck variations and the fact that you mix and match fabrics to achieve different uniques looks.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? I used a printed ankara for the middle, sleeve and flounce section. I also cut of about 8 inches in the length and added a mermaid flounce at the bottom using McCalls M6838 sewing pattern.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I am definitely going to sew it again since I love the overall finished fit on me. I would recommend to you if you like a nice fitted dress that is easy to make.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!
