How are you all doing? I have been doing great and I am so sorry for the inconsistency of outfit posts this past couple of weeks. The weather in the DMV area has not been corporative at all, we have had snowstorms upon snowstorms this past weeks and it has also been extremely cold. I normally would brave the cold to take my outfit pictures but it's just not worth it at this point in time. I am so over winter and desperately counting down the 24 more days till Spring starts.
On to my DIY outfit, I made this dress some weeks back using a faux leather dress on ASOS as an inspiration. Ever since I started sewing, I rarely shop for clothes (only shop for basics/essentials) and anything I know I can make, I wouldn't buy it. Plus it's way cheaper to sew my clothes than pay retail prices. I used Simplicity Pattern 1314 and mixed textured fabrics (faux leather and crepe) to create this dress. I love the end result, it fits so well on me and it looks way more expensive than the $14 I used to buy the fabrics. In styling it, I went for an all black monochrome look by pairing it with printed tights and black leather ankle booties. I completed the look with a bold red lips. What do you guys think of the dress? For my sewist readers, check out the pattern below...:)
Pattern Review: Simplicity 1314 Cynthia Rowley Pattern
Pattern Description: Dress has sleeveless or elbow length, contrast front & back panels.
Pattern Sizing: It came in sizes 6-14 and I cut a size 12.
Fabric Used: 1 yard of Faux Leather fabric from Joann's and 1 yard of crepe fabric
Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you are done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow, I have always found Simplicity patterns very easy to understand.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the versatility, you can mix and match different fabrics and textures to achieve many variations of this one dress
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? None, I cut the size 12 based on the finished garment measurements and it fits me perfectly.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes! In mixed Ankara prints and I would definitely recommend to others, it's also a quick sew.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!
I like the mix of fabrics in this dress. I'd try some top stitching to add a nice detail.
