How are you all doing? Hope you had a lovely weekend. I sure did in between sewing, studying and working. I had time to sew the past week and quickly whipped up this pencil skirt and cropped top set using the Vlisco "Pret-A-Creer" {Ready-to-Create} gift set. I love expressing my Nigerian culture with my personal style, therefore it's no surprise that I am totally obsessed with Vlisco 100% Wax Cotton Fabrics. They seriously have the best quality ankara fabrics with bold and colorful designed prints. Every time they release a collection, they always have a fashion campaign fill with the most eccentric and gorgeous styled clothes to go with it. The "Pre-A-Creer" pre-packed features one of their designs, it included 2 different fabrics, 2 pattern, an invisible zipper and vlisco metal to create a chic look. It only took me a couple of hours to sew the set once I cut up the fabric. I wore the outfit to Church on Sunday by styling it with a pair of bright orange pumps and camel coat. As you can tell from the background, we had a snow storm not too long ago and I brave the cold to take my outfit For those who sew, check out my pattern review below...:)
Pattern Description: It contains a combination of 2 & 2 yards, or 2 & 4 yards fabrics, two sewing patterns to create both the top and the skirt of your outfit, a zip and a Vlisco metal tag.
Fabric Used: The 2 different fabrics from the pre-packed set.
Did it look like the photo on the pattern envelope once you are done sewing with it? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? It was somewhat easy but for a beginner like me, I would have loved if the instructions had pictures. Also I did not quite understand how to do the neckline, but my friend and fellow sewist Yetunde of Sew Urbane came to my rescue and explained how to do it.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the pencil skirt pattern and I added it to my favorite patterns stack. I did not like that the patterns did not come with seam allowance, I had to add 5/8 inch seam allowance to my seams.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? I shortened the top by 2 inches at the bottom and also used the skirt fabric to make the neckline of the top for a contrasting look.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I would definitely be making the skirt again and again since I love it so much but I doubt I will be making the top again. I would definitely recommend the pre-pack gift set to others especially if you love ankara prints with a modern take.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!
