How are you all doing? It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, so I need to catch you all up on stuff that has been going up with me. First of all, I turned 24 (still amazes me that I am that old...sigh!) on the 11th of April. I normally do a birthday post, but school got the best of me this year so I wasn't able to blog that day. I definitely had the best time on my birthday even though I spent it in taking an OSCE exam in the morning and then class in the afternoon. My classmates/pharmily made my day special and I am super appreciative of their kindness and thoughtfulness towards me. Also, my first year of pharmacy school will be over in a few weeks. Seriously where did the time go? I literally only have 1 major exam left and I will be done. I am so grateful to God for seeing me thus far, it has not been an easy journey but with God, I have been able to face and overcome many challenges in the past year. I say this all the time but I just feel so blessed to be studying something that I am really passionate about. I will be sharing my thoughts and experience in regards to my grad school experience in a separate post later.
On to today's post, I made this beautiful cut-out shoulder skater dress as a birthday gift for myself the last time I went home. I actually was inspired by a picture on Instagram and I saved that picture until I was able to recreate the dress myself. I love the richness and texture of the jacquard fabric I used, the dress is absolutely a special occasion dress for events like weddings and parties. It was not the easiest dress to sew but I am so in love with how it turned out that I want to make it again in another fabric...lol. I simply paired the dress with a bright yellow pumps to add a bold statement. For those that sew, I have a pattern review and more details on the dress below...:)
And do let me know, what do you think of my "birthday" dress?
Pattern Review: Vogue 9202
Pattern Description: Dress is close-fitting through bodice with princess seams, shaped empire waistline, round neckline, and back invisible zipper.
Pattern Sizing:It came in a size 14-22 and I cut a size 16 with a D cup size.
Fabric Used: Nicole Miller Floral Jacquard Fabric
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, super easy!
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the curved empire waist line with the fit and flare skirt. I really like that it came in different cup sizes, that made the fitting on the bust to be almost perfect. Plus the final fit without any modifications is just so on point, I love it on me.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? I made view B of the dress but changed the sleeves. I used McCalls 7510 view A cut-out shoulder flared sleeve for the sleeves portion and finished that part with a biased tape. I also added horse hair braid to the hem of the skirt.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes & Yes! I absolutely love the fit on me, so I plan on making another version is I find the right fabric. Note that this is a fully lined dress so you might want to take it into consideration if you plan on making it. Therefore, it does take some time to cut and sew the dress but it's all worth it at the end with the finished look.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!
Loove the fabric and style. The yellow shoes add a pop of color bringing your outfit together. Looove it.
