My DIY: White Floral Print Dress + Tilly & the Buttons "Etta" Dress Review

Happy New Month Lovelies!

White Floral Print Dress (I made)
Shoemint "Mia" Sandals (super old)
Coloupop "The Rabbit" Ultra Satin Lipstick
How are you all doing? I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Mine was super fun with a birthday celebration and yet another graduation party. I even got to sew my first shirt dress, which I will share soon on the blog. Today's post features a floral print dress that I made some weeks back. I love the floral print of the fabric and the fact that it's a cotton stretch sateen (my favorite fabric type to work with) is a winner. As soon as I saw Tilly & the Buttons "Etta" dress pattern I knew I had to get it and make at least one for myself. I mostly stick to the big 4 sewing pattern companies, but lately I am loving some patterns from Indie companies. Since most come in the pdf/print at home format, that was also something that I had to think about before trying them out. I stumbled upon this video tutorial that explicitly explains how to assemble a pdf pattern and I was sold. I am not going to say it's the easiest thing to do but I am always enthusiastic about stepping up my sewing game. This pattern had about 34 pages which I had to tape together and then cut the pattern pieces before cutting the fabric and finally sewing. It's all worth it at the end when you see your finished garment, so I would  recommend trying out PDF sewing patterns. I definitely see more of them in my I wore the dress to church by styling it with a pair of bold color sandals.
P.S: I have the pattern review of the "Etta" below...:)
Pattern Description: "Etta is an elegant fitted dress, shaped with darts at the bust, waist and shoulders. Sleek and flattering, it has a choice of lined cap sleeves or darted three-quarter length sleeves, high-back or stunning V-back neckline, with optional collar and faux pockets. Etta closes with an invisible zip at the back. The hemline hits the bottom of the knee, with a kick pleat for easy movement." - from website.
Pattern Sizing: It came in sizes from 1-8, I cut a size 6 and it fits everywhere except my waist. It is a bit big at the waist, I will definitely fit it better at the waist next time I make it.
Fabric Used: White Floral Stretch Cotton Sateen from Fashion Fabrics club, more selections HERE
Were the instructions easy to follow? It looks super easy when I glanced through it, but I did not follow it while sewing, I have made a lot of dresses like this style that I can sew it without instructions.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I absolutely love the silhouette of the dress. It has a wiggle feel to it with the midi fitted style and that's my favorite style of dress to wear, since it is versatile and can be worn for different occasions. I also like that it has a lot of darts on it which can sometimes be annoying to sew but it really with the perfect fitting of the dress.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? The only alterations I made was to shorten the three-quarter sleeves length to right above the elbow length.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes & Yes! I plan on making it again, I love how it turned out. I will definitely recommend it to anyone interested in making a fitted and flattering dress style like this.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

  1. Lovely dress and look, have a nice week.

  2. You look amazing in this. I may have to get this pattern as well after seeing your copy :)

  3. LOVE this dress, did you add a lining to it?

    1. No I did not, I finished it with a facing on the neckline.

  4. Just read your review of the Etta dress. Did you have any problems with the back darts on the neck area? I seem to have lots of puffiness around those darts. i am making the back bodice with a V in muslin to test the fit. Even taking in the darts don't seem to eliminate this problem.
