Shoemint Black Leather Sandals (old)
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipstick
How are you all doing? I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Today's post features a new style of dress that I made: A wrap dress. As soon as i saw this pattern during it's release in the Spring/Summer, I know I had to make one since I don't have any wrap dresses in my closet. I used a rayon challis (first time using the fabric) to make and as much as I love the style of the dress, I am not a 100% pleased with the way it turned. It is just too opened in the front bodice area, I wasn't sure if a full bust adjustment would help with the issue. Anyways, sewing is a everyday learning process and sometimes how you envision your sewing project does't come out the way you want it. The key is learning from your mistakes and continue working towards building up your sewing skills...:)
I styled the dress with a pair of simple black leather sandals since the floral print of the dress is a very busy one and completed the look with my afro.
Pattern Review: Vogue 9251
Pattern Description: Fitted wrap dress has side ties, sleeve and length variations and uneven hemline
Pattern Sizing: It came in a size 8-16 and I cut a size 16.
Fabric Used: Rayon Challis from Fabric Mart, more options HERE
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, super easy to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really love the wrap style with the flutter sleeves, I  don't like how opened it was in the front bodice. I cannot wear it without a cami underneath.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? I actually had to take in about 1.5 inches at the shoulder seam since the bodice was too long for my torso I did not realize it until I had almost finish the dress. I also lengthened the sleeves a bit. I could not figure out how to modify the bodice so that it is not as opened as it turned out.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? No I would not make it again, on the verge of looking for more woven wrap dresses patterns. I would recommend it though if you want to try a wrap dress but be careful if you have big bust as it shows the cleavage area a bit too much for my personal preference.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Looks gorgeous on you. I agree, I prefer a little more modesty in the bust area as well. Thank you for doing this review. Very helpful. ☺
