How are you all doing? I hope you all had a wonderful week. I had a fun one attending 2 graduation parties but then it's back to rotations as usual this morning. I am finally posting this jacket I made using Beaute J'adore's pattern for McCalls. I have literally been wearing this jacket since I made it about 2 weeks ago, from attending a friend's birthday dinner to casually with a t-shirt and shorts.
For May's #sewyourview the pattern assigned was McCalls 7749 and as soon as the pattern was released it was on my list to sew. I decided to make it in the color purple because I can easily transition it from spring/summer to the fall season.
I cut a size small and the only modification I made was to shorten the length by about 8 inches. I used a purple poly/cotton twill from Fabric.com and lining was a poly blend from Joann's. I used about 2.5 yards and 1inch buttons I ordered from eBay. I tend to buy my notions in bulk so I got about 18 (1'' black buttons) for $5. I also did not use metal belt buckles, instead I modified it into a simple waist tie belt. One issue I had was the way the pattern instructions explained finishing the hem, I did not understand it. I just serged it and topstitched it in place (so my lining and main fabric are not joined together)
I really love the way this pattern turned out, it was relatively simple to make despite the fact that it had a lining. The buttons and tab details gives the jacket a fresh look and I know I will definitely be making another version in the fall/winter.
For the styling, I simply paired it on top of a t-shirt, jean shorts and a pair of caged sandals.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!
