How are you all doing? I am doing great, finally adjusting back to my APPE rotations for school. I feel like I am so behind with blog posts and therefore will be sharing 2 posts/week till I am all caught up. I also need to find time to do my travel diary posts for both my China and Dubai trip. Speaking of China, today's post features what I wore for my brother's medical school graduation in Shenyang, China.
I made a wiggle dress for the special occasion. I first discovered wiggle dresses from ASOS way back in 2012, see their current selection HERE and the style of dress became one of my favorite silhouette to wear. Wiggles dresses has a vintage vibe to it, they are super fitted yet classic and you really have to "wiggle" when walking in them...lol. They are also versatile and can be worn to different occasions including church, weddings, girls outings, formal events etc.
A typical wiggle dress has a fitted bodice with waist and/or bust darts with a fitted pencil skirt that has 1 or 2 pleats by the front waist for shaping and then darts in the back skirts.
Since I love the wiggle dress style so much, I have been trying to find patterns that are similar to the style but the ones that I find are usually close to it not exactly like it. A newly released vogue pattern V1595 looks pretty similar to a variation of the ASOS wiggle dresses but I wouldn't be able to tell until I actually sew it up. Besides, I still need to find the time to take pattern drafting classes till then I will just have Sadiq of Ashford by Sadiq draft them for me like he did this one. I am so glad I have a wiggle dress pattern block in my collection. I will definitely be sewing up more versions.
My brother with his graduating class.
I am so happy and proud of my elder brother, I know it couldn't have been easy moving to a new country, learning a new language and most importantly studying medicine, But he did it by the grace of God!
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed day.
